If your SATA drive does not get recognized when installing linux (happens on older linux distributions), you can have it recognized by filling in the "linux all-generic-ide" command before launching the installer.
Before starting the installer, type in the following:
# linux all-generic-ide
Then press and you will see the drives will get recognized on the setup screen.
